Friday Favorites 07.27.2018

Happy Friday friends!

I’m linking up with Narci, Erika, and Andrea for Friday Favorites and will recap my past weekend and events throughout the week. Sadly I don’t have a lot of pictures so I’ll try not to bog you down with so much text!

Last Friday was my last day of summer before going back to work. One last morning dog park session was in order before meeting two co-workers for lunch. Shortly afterwards, I wandered into the most swanky second hand women’s clothing shop before it was time to go see Mamma Mia 2 with my mother-in-law!!!! All in all, it was really good. I still like the first one better because of Meryl Streep. However, the singing and acting in the sequel was excellent as well!

Saturday morning, I drove to Dallas to assist my friend in a newborn photography session. My friend is a baby whisperer. It’s amazing. For the past few years, I have been helping her with these sessions. My job is to help with lighting such as holding a reflector, arranging sets, and helping pose the baby. Her photography is amazing and she has been able to gift her clients with some very special portraits of their new arrival. Saturday evening, I attended part of a birthday party for a dear friend of mine and Shay. We had a great time seeing his family and getting to celebrate him.

Sunday, I woke up super sore and not feeling so hot. As much as I wanted to attend service, I couldn’t make it to the early one and tuned in online. After some extra rest, I headed to the Painted Tree for a birthday gift for Shay’s aunt and to the grocery store to pick up a dessert for small group. For lunch, we went to Blue Mesa Grill for a birthday buffet meal for Shay’s aunt. Holy stretch pants- this was NO ordinary Mexican food buffet. Here’s all that I saw (with some pictures)

Salad table with three types of green salads

Fruit trays with fresh watermelon juice

Salsa/guacamole table with two huge bins of tortilla chips and SWEET POTATO CHIPS!!!!

Carving board table with brisket, ham, and salmon

Made to order breakfast tacos and omelets with some super fancy looking fillings

Fried chicken and waffle stand

Eggs, potatoes, and sausage

Grilled vegetables

Rice and black beans, blue corn enchiladas oozing with cheese, migas

Adobo pies (corn pies with either beans or chicken stuffed in them)

Macaroni and cheese

Dessert table with CHOCOLATE COVERED STRAWBERRIES, flan, pecan pie squares, churros, and something resembling donut holes

Raspberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream

I had no problem getting a gluten free/vegan meal!!! My plate looks super messy but here’s what I got! Fruit, salad, grilled vegetables, sweet potato chips with salsa and guacamole.

After coming home and briefly resting, I attended small group.

Monday, I started work and it’s been a whirlwind since that day. Summer hours are in effect for the next two weeks. Good news is that I get two Fridays off but stretching the hours during the day has been super hard! Especially since I have been on break! My morning routine is back in place of working out at least 40-50 minutes before getting ready and going to work. Every morning, I have also had a smoothie thanks to my new smoothie prep method!

Also, it’s been super hot:

In the evenings, we have worked a little here and there on the house. Shay installed a new patio door and big window in our living room. So much light is shining into our house!

That’s really all I have for this week! I hope you all are staying cool!

  • Wow Shan that weather is HOT! We are hot here too today at nearly 99 (and remember, no air con!), but 111 is another level! Good for you fitting your workout back in before work – I guess you won’t feel like doing that AFTER a long hot day at work! As usual your post contains great food – and that Mexican lunch buffet sounds AMAZING! I haven’t had breakfast yet and it is reminding me I am very hungry! Sounds fun helping out with a new born photography session – that must be a fun job! Cool too that you can ‘log in’ to see your church service – as usual – you are decades ahead of us here in terms of things like that! Have a lovely weekend – Joanne xx

    • Oh bless you being pregnant and having no AC. I would be miserable!! Newborn sessions are so fun! You may have to find a newborn photographer in the UK- you won’t regret having pictures made 🙂 Have a great weekend Joanne!

  • A Mexican buffet?! That sounds amazing and like a dream come true for this Mexican loving girl. I can’t wait to see pictures of your house once you finish! It’s been fun seeing the snippets as you guys are working.

    • It was an amazing experience! Next time I go, I will be wearing sweatpants 😛 I’m excited to share progress hopefully soon!

  • What did you find at the swanky shop? That buffet – oh my! You were so busy and socialized so much last weekend! Great job working out before work! I have got to figure out my routine and give it a try!
    Happy weekend!

    • I got two tops! My pictures were bad so I didn’t post them but I’ll take better pictures next time I go. I did socialize quite a bit!!! Lots of great time with friends and family! Happy weekend to you too!

  • Happy Friday Shannon! What a week you had. And oh my stars ⭐️ look at that buffet! Food as far as the eyes can see… hope it gets a bit cooler in TX and you have a great weekend

  • Wow, yeah I love the summer over here but I can see why some people in other areas are over it after awhile. That is so hot! That must be really cool to see some behind the scenes work that goes into a newborn shoot. I love professional pictures but sometimes the reality is there is a lot of work that goes into getting them to look like that. That Mexican buffet is insane! Look at all of that food! I hope you have a great weekend! Sierra Beautifully Candid

    • It is so cool! I have learned so much from my friend and she’s been gracious offering to help me figure out my camera. There’s so much that go into these pictures!! Thank you Sierra 🙂

  • So sweet about your friend and the newborn shoot. That buffet looks and sounds AHmazing! Stay cool girlfriend and enjoy the weekend!
