Born into a family of food lovers, I learned at an early age to appreciate excellent home-cooked food. At 12 years old, I began learning kitchen basics, the art of hospitality, and the process of planning a full course meal from start to finish. In many ways, food is my contribution and extension of myself to others.
I soon discovered part of being an avid cook is to adapt for others’ dietary needs. While dating my now-husband, I learned how to substitute or create made-from-scratch recipes due to the prevalence of corn syrup/high fructose corn syrup in processed food products. Soon afterwords, I developed health issues which eventually evolved into a total gluten-free lifestyle change in 2015. Since that time, I have eliminated quite a few dairy products and most animal products. Between my husband’s carnivorous ways and my practically vegetarian palette, food preparation can be quite tedious.
Many folks with special dietary needs and/or food allergies may understand the struggle of coming up with dishes for the whole family to enjoy. At times, this may lead to multiple dishes which can be costly, time consuming, and exhaustive! My charge has been to find recipes that I can slightly alter to accommodate my family’s dietary needs. In doing so, you will notice I start out with one recipe and slightly modify it in two ways: Shay’s Way and Shan’s Plan. To learn more about how we navigate meals, eating out, etc, please see below!
I’m so excited to share my passion for cooking with all of you and are thankful for all of your love and support.
